Mendelssohn’s Elijah (2024)

Venue: Endler Hall, Stellenbosch
On 16 and 17 November, Johan de Villiers will conduct two performances in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch, of the oratorio Elijah composed by Felix Mendelssohn. As soloists will appear the celebrated singers Brittany Smith (soprano), Minette du Toit-Pearce (mezzo), Siphe Mdena (tenor) and Conroy Scott (baritone), the latter in the title role of Elijah.
The 100-strong choir will consist mainly of ex-Libertas Choir members, but supplemented by several other talented choral singers from across the Western Cape. The orchestra of 45 professional musicians will have as concert master Petri Salonen, with Zorada Temmingh providing the organ accompaniment.

Die Libertaskoor vier hul 30ste bestaansjaar in 2019. Op 23 en 24 Maart het hul optredes gehad by KKNK. Die program het klassieke en kontemporêre werke ingesluit, asook bekende treffers.

OUR HISTORY
The Libertas Choir was established in April 1989 under the auspices of the Women for South Africa movement. Since 1989, Johan de Villiers has been the conductor and together with his wife, Louwina, as the manager of the choir, the Libertas Choir have performed on world-renowned stages.
OUR CONDUCTOR
Johan de Villiers is an Extraordinary Professor of Mathematics at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, and has authored two textbooks in Mathematics. His excellence as entrepreneurial choral conductor has earned him wide recognition in South Africa and abroad.
